Management Programmes

The Heriot-Watt University Management Programme is delivered through a highly flexible method of supported student learning and covers core management subjects. The Management Programme allows students to take a certificate, a diploma or a degree course and to choose from five degree pathways .

The Management Programme is delivered with a combination of printed materials, computer based information and tutor assisted guidance. The quality and standards of the awards are assured by Heriot-Watt University and qualifications are exactly the same standard and have the same status as those awarded to on-campus students at Heriot-Watt University.

Course Structure

The Management Programme allows students to take a certificate, a diploma or a degree course. There are 5 options for the degree awards, as follows:

Each degree is structured in 3 stages. Students are normally required to take 4 module sets at each stage. Each module set represents approximately 300 hours of student study (which comprises tutorial sessions and private independent study). Students are assessed by examination on each module set.

As Stage 1 is common to all 5 degrees, students do not have to choose their degree pathway until the beginning of Stage 2 studies. A maximum of 6 exemptions are permitted per student on entry into the programme.

Module Sets
Stage 1: Accounting, Economics, Finance, and Management

Stage 2: Accounting in Business, Business Statistics, Financial Decisions and Markets, Human Resource Management, and Marketing

Stage 3: Business and Employment Law, Business Finance, Business Strategy, Capital Markets and Investment, Issues in Accounting, Operations Management, and Taxation.

Entry Requirements

2 A-levels, or international or local equivalent (i.e. a school-leaving certificate obtained at about the age of 18 recognised as the same standard as A-levels). Further education and professional body qualifications are also acceptable (eg. ABE, IAM, ACCA etc). In addition, students over the age of 21 who have some appropriate work experience may also be accepted even if they have limited formal educational qualifications
